KENMORE, N.Y. - The Kenmore Village Improvement Society (KVIS) says Trader Joe's, the specialty grocery store chain based in Southern California, is planning to open a store in Western New York in the fourth quarter of 2013.

The community organization has been lobbying Trader Joe's to open in a Kenmore location for years.

KVIS President Melissa Foster says that a Trader Joe's will be coming to "a main corridor" in Western New York, however, it won't be in Kenmore.

An email from Trader Joe's received in the WGRZ newsroom early Monday stated: "At this time Kenmore is not in Trader Joe's two-year plan." In another email, Trader Joe's spokesperson Alison Mochizuki told 2 On Your Side's Michael Wooten, "We do not have a location in WNY to confirm."

However, sources say the confirmation can't come until the lease is completely finished, and that's why the location is still being kept secret.

At the KVIS meeting Monday night, Foster told the group the good news, and it was well-received by the members who worked hard for a full year to bring the store to this area.

When Trader Joe's stores open, people often camp out hoping to be first in line. That was the case when a store opened in Albany earlier this year.
