NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. - SUNY Brockport has confirmed that Alexandra Kogut is the student who was killed Saturday Morning.
Kogut, 18, was a 2012 graduate from New Hartford High School was a freshman studying communication at SUNY Brockport.
Sheriff's Deputies say Kogut was murdered by her boyfriend, 21-year-old Clayton Whittemore. Deputies say it happened sometime between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Saturday.
"Alexandra Kogut was a bright, beautiful young woman who was thrilled to be beginning her college education. Her lovely and sweet demeanor was truly infectious and she will forever be missed," a family spokesperson said in a statement released to the media. "Her family is very grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and support that they have received from so many friends and neighbors. They ask that their privacy be respected during this time of grief."
In a statement released by SUNY Brockport, college students, faculty and staff are planning a remembrance ceremony for the student at 9:30 p.m. Monday evening at the college. The university is expected to announce more specific details Monday.
Conseling Center staff at SUNY Brockport have continued to meet with a number of students and staff Sunday.
