WILLIAMSVILLE, NY - An employee of Gateway Longview was taken to the hospital after she was hurt by two clients.

The incident happened Sunday evening at the Williamsville campus. According to Al Dirschberger, Gateway-Longview's V.P. of Residential Treatment, the staff member noticed that two teenage female residents appeared to be about to attack another female resident.

The staffer stepped in and attempted to talk to the girls to diffuse the situation. She soon became the target of the attack. Police say the 15 and 13 year old girls pushed her down, punched and kicked her before two other staff members stepped in and ended the incident. The girls then ran from the building to another nearby building, where they were found and arrested by Amherst Police.

Dirschberger says that the staff responded very well. The staff member at the center of the attack felt dizzy and light-headed following the incident and was taken to ECMC, where she was treated and released.

The teenage girls were arraigned in family court on felony assault charges.

A spokesperson for Gateway Longview issued this statement:

"The Gateway-Longview employee who was physically harmed on Sunday night by two clients who live on the agency's Williamsville campus has been medically evaluated, treated, and released from a local hospital, and is resting comfortably at home. All proper procedures were followed by staff during this incident. The two clients involved are in police custody, as they were arrested for felony assault last night, and charges are pending."
