BUFFALO, N.Y. -- They're not saying exactly where and when they will be out, but New York State Police will be stepping up patrols over the long holiday weekend.
The troopers will be looking for those talking or texting behind the wheel as well as those who've had one too many.
"We'll also be doing some DWI sobriety check points. If people are going to be drinking over the holiday weekend, we want everyone to have a good time. Designate a sober driver so you get home safely and so everyone else on the road is doing the same," said Trooper Jeffrey Beback.
Last year troopers issued more than 4,300 tickets for speeding and arrested 277 drivers for DWI statewide.
