BUFFALO, N.Y.- The artist renderings for the Webster Block redevelopment were introduced several months ago, but today the layers were peeled back on HARBORCenter.
HARBORCenter Development LLC is the corporate name for the Terry Pegula-backed group that won the bid for the inner harbor parcel known as the Webster Block. The project totals $123 million and includes below grade parking, retail space, a major restaurant, two ice arenas and a 200-room hotel.
Sabres Chief Development Officer Cliff Benson says that the project has been running smoothly. They have conducted soil sampling and environmental studies on the site and found no surprises. Benson says that the City and Empire State Development have been very supportive partners in the process.
Benson & company will present more detailed designs to the board at their January meeting. A few other items need to be taken care of before this project becomes reality, namely a public hearing and a final sale of the property from the City of Buffalo to HARBORCenter Development.
Even so, Benson says things are right on schedule and they are still on track for a March ground-breaking and a September 2014 opening of the ice arenas and retail space. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2015.
