DUNKIRK, N.Y. - The 90 westbound is back open after several closures due to accidents and snow Monday night.

Police shut down the westbound thruway at Ripley and then at Dunkirk for about an hour after 9 p.m.  Both closures were due to wintry conditions.

Those closures came after an accident shut down the 90 westbound for almost two hours earlier in the evening.

The Thruway Authority says a tractor trailer and five cars were involved in a crash around 4:30 p.m. near Exit 57A, Eden-Angola Center Road. No one was seriously hurt, but the crash blocked the road and forced police to close the 90 westbound at Exit 57A. Traffic was backed up two and a half miles at one point.

One lane re-opened around 6:15 p.m. and the other re-opened about a half hour later.

NITTEC cameras showed plenty of backups on the snowy thruway throughout the night. You can check out the live cameras here.

Authorities remind drivers to take it slowly with the lake-effect snow expected to continue throughout Tuesday.
