BUFFALO, NY - A 3-year-old from Lancaster is not only in the pages of Parent's Magazine, but she also made the cover.
She is adorable and funny. This is her first cover and it is a national publication. Her mom and dad, as you can imagine, are filled with pride.
Liz told us, "It was crazy. We've never done a professional photo shoot or semi-professional photos before." Liz and Emily headed to Brooklyn on November 5th for a photo shoot. It was a day they will never forget. Emily said it was fun. You can tell it was fun by the pictures. The Keicher's couldn't believe it when they fist found the magazine on store shelves.
Emily is like most 3-year-olds. She loves making snowmen and taking pictures and having midday dance parties. Her smiley is so infectious, her personality so sweet, that it takes a moment to realize there is something different about Emily. Emily has Spina Bifida.
The Keichers found out when they were eighteen weeks pregnant. It was difficult news to hear but the couple stayed focused on their growing baby.
Emily has many therapies. She has physical therapy, occupational therapy, aqua therapy and horse therapy.
Emily uses forearm crutches or a walker to help her get around, and she does not let much get in her way at all. She has participated in the Kids section of the Buffalo Marathon and the Disney Marathon. She is one focused little girl.
The Keichers are using this opportunity to show people that not everything is as it seems. They do not want pity. They do not want people to think they are unhappy, because they are very happy and have a wonderful life. They want people to focus on Emily, the 3-year-old, not Emily with different abilities.
She was given the opportunity of a photo shoot with some help from the National Spina Bifida Association. She was not guaranteed that any pictures would make the magazine, let alone the cover.
Now it is clear, to the people at the magazine and everyone else, that this is a glowing and beautiful little girl from the inside out.
