BUFFALO, NY - A three-year-old was laid to rest in Buffalo. Malachi D. Watkins-Norman was killed in a house fire over a week ago on Timon Street.
The toddler died along with his mother, Lequeisha Watkins. The father, Berry Norman and a two-year old sibling survived. "In our eye, she's a hero," said Yolanda Ross about her daughter Lequeisha.
Malachi was remembered as a little boy who loved the color red, Elmo and to say the alphabet in Spanish.
Norman was too emotional to speak, but his aunt, Annetta Williams, told 2 On Your Side, "it's been very traumatic for him, but I told him we're his shoulders, so we'll continue to hold him up."
Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield spoke at the funeral. "You hurt, we hurt," he said to the crowd of about 75 inside Miracle Christian Fellowship Center in Buffalo.
A memorial service for Watkins will be held on Wednesday in Buffalo.
