BATAVIA, NY-- Firefighters think lightning may have sparked a fire at an historic home in Batavia Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews were called out to the designated historic home on Ross Street around 4:30 p.m. A maid, who was the only one in the house at the time, saw smoke and called 911.

There's no words on the damage total yet, but volunteer firefighters had to be called in from surrounding areas to deal with the flames.

Firefighters are investigating the cause but say there were several lightning strikes in the area at the time.
