BUFFALO - Kali, the orphaned polar bear cub currently residing at the Alaska Zoo, is coming to Buffalo on Wednesday, May 15.

The bear was found orphaned in Point Lay, Alaska, in March.

Part of the reason the Association of Zoos and Aquariums selected Buffalo for Kali's new, temporary home is the opportunity for "peer development" with Luna, the Buffalo Zoo's resident polar bear cub. In other words, they don't want the bears to be lonely. The Buffalo Zoo staff's long experience with polar bears was another factor.

Kali is expected to move into the St. Louis Zoo's new polar bear exhibit when it opens in 2015.
