NIAGARA FALLS, NY - On Sunday, New York State Park Police resumed their search for a man who slipped into the fast-moving waters of the lower Niagara River late Saturday afternoon.

Police tell 2 On Your Side that Narang "David" Kim, 23, of Amherst, fell into the water while visiting Whirlpool State Park with his mother and a group of friends. They told police they last saw the man with his head above water until he was swept away by the swift current and lost from view.

Lieutenant Clyde Doty of the New York State Park Police told 2 On Your Side that, "the witnesses told us that he was last seen above water, and they lost sight of him due to the tree line, not because he went below the surface. There could be any possibility that he made it to shore."

The search continued until about 9:45 p.m. when rescuers responded to a second incident where a woman was reported to be in the water above the American Falls.

The search resumed at daylight Sunday morning. Parks police officers said they would continue to search the water's edge from the shore and by boat. The Erie County Sheriff's Air One rescue helicopter is conducting an aerial search while the Niagara County Sheriff's Department marine patrol unit patrols the lower Niagara River.

Kim's mother was removed from the gorge Saturday on a stretcher, apparently stricken with grief.
