NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. -- A nearly $6 million expansion project at North Tonawanda's Riviera Theater is underway.
Crews began with the removal of a brick building located directly behind the theater. The building used to house a transmission repair shop, but it's now seen as an eyesore.
Its removal will make way for a new two-story addition to the theater's performing arts center.
"Our new theater is going to have new rest rooms, expansion to the concessions and bar area, new performance dressing rooms for the performers and basically more events and corporate space and more opportunity for corporate sponsors," said Gary Rouleau, the theater's director of development.
The expansion is expected to take about a year-and-half to complete.
