ALBANY, NY - The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles has begun issuing the newly redesigned driver licenses that were first announced in November 2012.
The new licenses are being phased in gradually, which means the old-style licenses will also still be issued through late September or early October, according to an internal memo published at the end of July.
The new licenses are made of rigid plastic and feature enhanced security and anti-tampering measures, such as laser-engraving and raised lettering. Photos will now be printed in black-and-white instead of color.
