LOCKPORT, N.Y. - Some high-powered weapons have been reported missing from a Boy Scout office in Lockport. The Iroquois Trail Council says six shotguns, seven rifles, a couple hunting bows and several cases of ammunition were stolen some time over the weekend.
"That's the program equipment that the scouts use to learn safety, safe handling and marksmanship skills, we use that equipment at our summer camp," said Jim McMullen the scout executive at Iroquois Trail Council.
The Niagara County Sheriff's office says someone broke into the building, when it was closed and locked.
The incident was reported to authorities on Monday. The council's location is at 7121 Rochester Road.
"This is an unfortunate incident that occurred, it's frustrating and appalling to me that someone would target an office with the Boy Scout logo on it," said McMullen.
A boy scout leader believes about $4,000 worth of weapons and ammo was taken. The weapons were locked away in a storage room.
The organization says the building has been there for decades and that this is the first time its been broken into.
The sheriff's office is investigating. Authorities say there are no suspects or witnesses at this time.
However, the search for any suspects is underway. Serial numbers for the weapons have been handed over to the sheriff's office. And, authorities say they're processing evidence from the scene.
Damage was also done to an Edward Jones office next door.
