Buffalo, NY -- Pools are great in the summer time especially right now when we have near record heat over the next couple days. But as we head toward the school year some pools have already closed including the Town Park in Cheektowaga. The pool is already empty. The pool closed late last week and is among many that close mid to late August.
Maryvale Public Pool is also closed. However, Cheektowaga still has Dingens public pool open until the end of this week but the hours have been reduced from 11:00am to 6:00pm down to 12:30 to 5:30pm.
Ellen Fischer, the Director for Youth and Recreation in Cheektowaga, says the reason pools close before summer ends and hours reduced is because their lifeguards head back to school. "Many of them are either leaving for college or preparing to leave for college this week," Fischer said. "The good majority of the rest of them are high school students, play football, cheerlead and the practices have begun this week so that has limited us with the amount of staff that we can put at our pools."
As for the City of Buffalo officials say all public pools will continue to be open through Labor Day from 11am to 7pm, 7 days a week.
In Lockport the Community Pool is still open Monday through Friday from 1:00 to 4:45pm, and on Saturday and Sunday 12:00 to 6:00pm. The pool will be open until the end of August.
In the Town of Tonawanda the Brighton Big Pool and Wading Pool, Kenmore Pool, Lincoln Big Pool and Wading Pool, and Mang Wading Pool, are all listed as open Monday through Thursday from 2:00 to 5:00pm, and 6:00 to 8:00pm. Also on Friday and Saturday from 12:00 to 5:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm, and Sunday from 12:00 to 5:00pm.
