BUFFALO, NY - A unique clean-up crew spent this past weekend aboard one of the historic military ships now docked on Buffalo's Inner Harbor Waterfront. For them, this is more of a labor of love ... and loyalty for their proud service as sailors on a fighting Navy ship known affectionately as a "Tin Can,"
Their Navy days may be long over but for this group of veterans there is still a mission aboard ship -- in this case. The USS The Sullivans, a storied ship now docked permanently at the Buffalo Naval and Military Park.
The destroyer was built in 1943 and the elements give it a constant beating. So now 40 to 50 members of the Tin Can Sailors organization have signed up for clean-up duty, and to even briefly live aboard the ship.
