LAKEWOOD, N.Y. -- By Monday evening, Chautauqua Lake appeared calm. Just a few hours earlier, a strong storm moved through toppling trees and even flipping a car.
The Lakewood Fire Chief tells us no one got hurt despite all of the damage in the area near the yacht club.
"There's a tree overturned where the root system goes up about 25 feet and the yacht club down there with all the boats turned over and the things just crumpled," said Jerry Ekstrom who lives in Lakewood.
"That hail was crashing against the window and I absolutely thought windows were going to break it was coming so hard," said another man who lives in the neighborhood.
While 125 customers were without power Monday evening, some of Lakewood's youngest residents put the Labor Day storm in perspective.
"It's not nearly as bad as it could've been. Houses could've crumbled. People could've gotten hurt, so it's not that bad," said Rachel Ekstrom.
As people clean up, they also wait for their insurance companies to come out to survey the damage.
