KIANTONE, N.Y. -- A horse in Kiantone in Chautauqua County has tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, or EEE.
You'll remember the health department did some aerial spraying a few weeks ago because mosquitos in the southeastern part of the county tested positive for the virus.
This is the first ever case of equine EEE in the County and the first equine case in New York State in 2013.
The virus is transmitted to mammals, including horses and people, through the bite of an infected mosquito.
No human cases have been reported this year.
