AMHERST, N.Y. - The always busy area of Niagara Falls Boulevard near the 290 in Amherst is going to be even more congested. It's all because of a grocery store. People have been calling on Trader Joe's to bring its unique products to Western New York.
Something new and exciting is here in Amherst.
Friday the first Trader Joes in Western New York opened its doors to shopper's crazy about everything organic and fresh. While carts bustled down isles and checkout stand lines backed up inside the new store.
The scene outside at times was just as crazy. 2 Amherst police officers assisted at the grand opening by directing traffic while security helped keep things safe.
While the lots stayed full, things became calmer towards the end of the day.
"I don't think it was that bad I really don't," the Rothe's said. "If you come here, you expect it."
These signs were put up telling people not to park on what can be an already "busy" stretch.
Trader Joes is located off Niagara Falls Boulevard, a place known for shopping and traffic.
"Because there's so many things and they can't widen the street," Carly Zielinski said. "I don't know what they can do -- I mean where could they put more parking lots you know."
As for the weekend police will be in the know, but they're not scheduled to be on location.
"It'll be on their radar and they'll more than likely be monitoring traffic -- kind of situational," store manager Ken Gaytan said. "If it's something that attention -- I'm sure they'll assist."
Because people are making the trip.
"You guys came all the way from Canada? Yep, we did just for Trader Joes."
So if you have to circle around the lot once or twice -- just bring your patience.
