New York, NY (Sports Network) - Dane Miller registered a double-double with 13
points and 13 rebounds to help the Rutgers Scarlet Knights earn an 81-73
decision over the Iona Gaels as part of the MSG Holiday Festival at Madison
Myles Mack scored a team-high 19 points for Rutgers (5-2) while Mike Poole was
also very productive with 18 points in 18 minutes off the bench. Eli Carter
chipped in 12 points and Wally Judge netted 10.
Lamont Jones tallied a game-high of 26 points for Iona (3-4), which lost its
second consecutive game and for the third time in four outings. Sean Armand
finished with 17 points and seven rebounds while Curtis Dennis provided a
spark off the bench with 12 points.
Rutgers narrowly led for most of the opening period before it generated a 12-0
run to build a 34-18 advantage on the scoreboard with 2:45 left before
halftime. The Scarlet Knights' bench produced 22 points in the first half to
give Rutgers a 35-23 lead heading into the intermission.
After trailing by as many as 22 points, the Gaels rallied back to cut the
deficit to just a single point on two separate occasions. However, Miller
scored four points and Poole added a pair of free throws in the final 24
seconds to put the game out of reach. Rutgers saw its lead evaporate due to 12
turnovers in the final 20 minutes.
The Scarlet Knights enjoyed a 47-29 advantage in the rebounding battle.
