Moraga, CA (Sports Network) - Matthew Dellavedova tallied 19 points and six
assists as the Saint Mary's Gaels defeated the San Francisco Dons, 78-72, in a
West Coast Conference showdown at McKeon Pavilion.
Stephen Holt added 16 points for Saint Mary's (13-4, 2-1 WCC), which bounced
back from a Thursday night loss at Gonzaga. Beau Levesque chipped in 15 points
from off the bench, while Mitchell Young scored 14 points for the hosts.
For San Francisco (7-10, 0-4), Cody Doolin scored 16 points and De'End Parker
netted 15 points. The Dons have lost their first four WCC bouts, and they have
dropped nine of their last 11 overall.
Saint Mary's shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, but San
Francisco was even better at 55.6 percent, as the Dons took a slim 36-35 lead
The Gaels took control after halftime thanks mostly to their 16-of-19 showing
from the free-throw line in the second half. The Dons kept their deficit to
single-digits for most of the frame, but Saint Mary's scored six points in the
final 28 seconds to seal its fate.
Saint Mary's made up for a poor 3-point shooting night (4-of-17) by making 24-
of-27 at the charity stripe.
