Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Jordan Salley registered a double-double of
16 points and 10 rebounds as the Sacramento State Hornets held on for a 53-52
decision over the Idaho State Bengals in a Big Sky Conference tilt at The
Dylan Garrity finished with 13 points and five assists for the Hornets (14-13,
8-10 Big Sky) as they picked up their second win in three games.
Tomas Sanchez paced Idaho State (5-23, 4-14) with 18 points, five assists and
three steals. Andre Hatchett scored 10 points and pulled down nine boards, but
it was not enough to help the Bengals avoid their fourth loss in a row.
Idaho State got off to a great start as it drained 14-of-25 from the field to
build a 34-24 lead by halftime. The Hornets connected on only 33.3 percent of
their field goal attempts including 2-of-12 from 3-point range in the first
The second stanza was a different story for the Bengals, who cooled off to
make only 19 percent of their shots from the field. Sacramento State generated
a 9-1 run that featured a pair of dunks by Salley to go on top, 53-46, with
2:40 left. Idaho State narrowed the deficit to one at 53-52, with just over a
minute showing on the clock as Sanchez hit a triple, but neither side was able
to register a single point the rest of the way.
The Hornets converted Idaho State's 15 turnovers into 19 points to overcome
their 38-32 loss in the rebounding battle.
