Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by a game-high 25 points from Juwan
Howard, Jr., the Detroit Titans downed the Illinois-Chicago Flames, 74-68, in
Horizon League play at Calihan Hall.
For the Titans (10-13, 3-5 Horizon), Anton Wilson finished with 16 points and
Evan Bruinsma chipped in with 15 and nine rebounds.
Marc Brown led the Flames (5-17, 0-8), now in the midst of a 11-game losing
streak, with 24 points. Kelsey Barlow added 18 points and Jake Wiegand scored
13 in the losing effort.
Detroit was strong from the field to open the contest, connecting on 50
percent of its field goal tries in the first half, including 4-of-10 from 3-
point range, as it took a 37-31 lead at the break. UIC shot 46.2 percent from
the field but just 1-of-4 from beyond the arc.
After halftime, the Titans continued to knock down their shots, shooting 48.2
percent and again hitting 4-of-10 from deep. The Flames struggled from the
field, shooting 39.4 percent and 3-of-10 from 3-point range. The Flames
trailed 61-54 with seven minutes to play but tied it at 61-61 with a 7-0
run. They never managed to take the lead, however, as the Titans held on down
the stretch to keep the Flames winless in the conference this season.
UIC had a slight edge in points in the paint, 34-32. The Titans outrebounded
the Flames, 35-33.
