Class AA: The battle of running backs Mitch Wilson, Orchard Park vs. Billy Lombardi, Aquinas. Expect to see running backs carry the ball 25 times. In the Section V title game, the Irish won 15-14 over Pittsford and Lombardi carried 33 times. Other keys is for the Quakers to put pressure on the Irish QB Jake Zembiec. The Quakers defense can't let Lombardi reach the edges or it could be a long night for the Quakers. Receiving corps for the Little Irish are all juniors led by Alex Bianchi and Marcus Conner. Ishmael Cox and Emilio Zuniga are excellent defensive players. Quakers need a big game from Holmes and avoid turnovers and penalties. My prediction: Orchard Park 21, Aquinas 17.
Class A: The Panthers played well in all phases of the game against West Seneca East and must do the same against undefeated Eastridge. The keys to the game for the Panthers is a solid game from Torrillo, 150 yards rushing from Jordan Everett, and Khalil Humphrey, avoid turnovers and penalties and for the defense to play smash mouth football. Eastridge defeated Canandaigua 47-7 in the Section V Class B titles for their first sectional championship in 8 years. My prediction: Sweet Home 27, Eastridge 20
Class B: Alden has been on a roll in the past 2 seasons with only 2 losses coming in the far west regional contest. The Bulldogs are playing solid football executing the offense and playing smash mouth football particularly in the trenches. East Rochester Granada is ranked 6th in the state poll with a 9-1 record while Alden is ranked number 2. The Bulldogs move on next week to face Maine-Endwell in the state semi-finals.
Class C: Cleveland Hill opponent in Class C far west regional's are the Hornell Red Raiders who have won 49 consecutive games and 3 consecutive state championships. The Red Raiders are ranked number one in the Class C state poll and are ranked 1186 nationally. The Red Raiders defeated Leroy 21-7 to earn their fifth consecutive section title. The Golden Eagles will have to play a perfect game and avoid any turnovers. Hornell likes to play a smash mouth ground oriented game and the Red Raiders have several players over 200 lbs and who benches over 250 lbs. Glen Graham's squad need a strong performance from Jacob Radlich, Brandon Thomas, Jared Watkins, and Jonathan Thomas. My prediction: Hornell 34, Cleveland Hill 13.
Class D: Randolph takes on Avon 9-1 and the Cardinals brought back memories of their 2009 state championship season in the manner in which they dominated previously unbeaten Maple Grove. The key to Pat Slater's squad will be play of line and rushing of Jordan Dowiasz. Like the Cardinals chances of moving on to the state semi-finals. My prediction: Randolph 20, Avon 12.
