Salamanca Favorite to Win Title

Forecast:

Fredonia: Weston Ley to be impact player for Hillbillies.

Southwestern: Trojans to rebound from 2012 dismal season.

SALAMANCA WARRIORS

Warriors are 13-4 over the past two seasons. Jason Marsh returns 7 starters on offense led by All-WNY Candidates Sean Connell, Damion Taylor and Cyrus Spruce. Defense is to be led by Tadd Beattie, Jogan John, Connell, Taylor and Spruce.


Talent from the 6-1-1 JV squad will help the Warriors this season. They play Falconer and Silver Creek/Forestville in the first two weeks. They will contend for League and Sectional Titles. Warriors will miss Tanner John, who is now playing at Hobart College.

FREDONIA HILLBILLIES

Hillbillies have a new Head Coach in Mike Marshall, who replaces Bob Ball (who recorded a67-48 record over 13 years). Key players returning are All-WNY Candidates Weston Ley and Cody Smith. Other key players include Tyler DiRusso, Matt McCarthy, Brett Seekings and John Piper.

Will compete for League Title and playoff berth. Fredonia opens at Silver Creek/Forestville which could be season barometer.

SOUTHWESTERN TROJANS

Trojans look to rebound from last year's disappointing season. They have one of the area's top kickers in Senior Tanner Hoose. Line will be anchored by Kyle Moran. Offense is to be sparked by Kevin Bellardo and Hunter Peterson. They return only 4 starters. Trojans open with Gowanda and Allegany-Limestone.

The key to the season will be the play of the QB. Trojans will be young. Jay Sirianni and his staff will have the team prepared to make the playoffs. Matchup at Fredonia in week 4 will determine the season's barometer. Southwestern will compete for a playoff berth. Sirianni needs 10 victories to reach the coveted 100-win mark.

SILVER CREEK/FORESTVILLE BLACK KNIGHTS

Black Knights have moved up to Class C South from Class D. They merged with Forestville for football. Key players will be All-WNY Candidates Sherman Williams (who is a candidate for 1,000 yards rushing), QB Nick Iskra and Jake Nosbisch who played with Hornets last season. Another key player will be Kaine Kettle.

Will miss Zed Williams, but compete for a playoff berth. They have tough matchups in the first two games against Fredonia and Salamanca.

Falcons have had rough times over the past two seasons, posting a 3-14 record. They return 9 on offense and 8 on defense. Top players include All-WNY Candidates RB Jacob Youngburg, DB Kyle Petersen and DE Jimmy McDonald. They have tough matchups in the first two weeks against Salamanca and Fredonia, but they will be competitive.

Gators will compete for a playoff berth. Key players for Paul Furlong's squad include Todd Mason, Pete Harris, Sean Robertson and Thomas Nye.

They open with Cattaragus/Little Valley and Southwestern in the first two games.

Panthers have won only two games over the last two seasons. Brennan Geiger, an All-WNY RB Candidate will provide the offensive spark. Talent from the 5-3 JV squad will help Sean Gable in his fifth season as Head Coach. Jamie Jensen will anchor the line. Southwestern and JFK kick off their season as opponents. They will improve -- the key to the season will be to put points on the board as Panthers only scored 16 points in 2012.
