Orchard Park can claim heir to the term "dynasty" with their tremendous accomplishments in high school football from 2001 to 2012.
Consider the Quaker record during this 12 year period:
Two state Class AA championships (2008, 2011)
One state Class AA runner up (2012)
Eight class AA sectional championships
Four Far West Regional titles (2007, 2008, 2011, 2012)
Eleven appearances in the Class AA sectional championships in the past twelve years; winning eight, losing three
Achieved a record of 113 wins and 21 losses including two unbeaten seasons in 2008 and 2011
Achieved the title of the most dominant WNY football team in the last 12 years
Were the top ranked large school in The Buffalo News Poll for five years; was number two for two years; was number three for three years and was ranked fourth on two occasions
Since the inception of the Section VI playoffs in 1979, the Quakers have played in the title game in nineteen years of the thirty; four wins and six losses
The Quakers have been selected by Maxpreps as one of the top 10 most consistent high school football programs in NYS. Orchard Park ranked number three in 2011.
From 2001 to 2012, Gene Tundo, Head Football Coach has accumulated a 161-28-0. Much of the Quaker success can be attributed to having teams at four different levels-modified, freshman, junior varsity and varsity. Success can also be attributed to having outstanding assistant coaches in Bob and Steve Ferrentino, Tony Agnello, Will Thiel, Chuck Senn and Craig Dana.
The Quakers although excelling on the football field haven't connected with many WNY high school football fans due to their reluctance to play any of the Catholic schools in their non- league games. Their freshman and JV teams play private schools. For the past two years, the Quakers varsity scrimmaged Canisius , although they decided not to play then this year. What makes the decision making problematic is the Quakers played Aquinas in 2012 in the state playoffs.
Orchard Park could do better by playing Canisius, St. Joes or St. Francis and these games would benefit WNY high school football overall.
