1,000 Yard Passers: Facts and Trivia

287 WNY Quarterbacks has passed for 1,000 yards in a season.

Williamsville South's Joe Licata (2008-10), Maple Grove's Randall Secky (1997-99) and South Park's Murice Howie (2010-12) are the only quarterbacks to pass for 1,000 yards in three seasons.

Chad Kelly, St. Joe's, was the only quarterback to pass for 3,000 yards in a season (3,050 in 2011).

Chad Kelly, St. Joe's, passed for the most yards in two seasons (5,209 yds in 2010-11).  Joe Licata of Williamsville South was next with 5,035 in 2009-10.

Maple Grove's Randall, Tom, and Chris Secky threw for over 1,000 yards in 7 different seasons.  Randall (1997-99); Tom (2006-07) and Chris (2007-08). 

14 Quarterbacks have thrown for over 2,000 yards in a season.

Randall Secky of Maple Grove was the first passer to throw for 2,000 yards in a season (2,094 yards in 1998).

The "Best Passing Family" is Chris, Randall, and Tom Secky.

Mike Radon of St. Francis, threw for 3,794 yards in 2000 and 2001.

Roger Hailey Trott in 1960 became the first WNY Quarterback to pass for 1,000 yards when he threw for 1,074 yards.

Chad Kelly, St. Joe's, in 2011 established a record of 3,050 yards passing in a season.

Maurice Howie, South Park, Sr. Quarterback has passed for over 1,000 yards in each of his first three years.  If he passes for 1,000 yards in 2013, he will become the first WNY passer to throw for 1000 yards in each of his 4 years.

In 1967, Frank Ruggiero of Bishop Fallon became the first passer ever in the Msgr. Martin Association to throw for 1,000 yards in a season (1,011 yds).

In 1967, Greg Conrad of Nichols became the first passer in a private school to pass for 1,000 yards in a season (1,445 yards).

In 1998, Maple Grove's Randall Secky became the first passer in WNY to pass for 2,000 yards in a season (2094 yards).

In 2001, Michael Radon of St. Francis became the first passer in Msgr. Martin to throw for 2,000 yards in a season (2408 yards).

23 Quarterbacks throw for 1,000 yards in 2012 led by Mike Torrillos of Sweet Home (2,370 yards) and Maurice Howie of South Park (2,052 yards).

17 Quarterbacks have passed for over 2,000 yards in a season, led by St. Joes, Chris Kelly who threw for 3,050 yards in 2011.

Hard to believe that 31 WNY high school football programs only have two or less 1,000 yard passers in a season: Depew, Burgard, West Seneca West, Salamanca and Starpoint have only one.

Dean Santuria, Grand Island Head Coach threw for over 1,000 yards in 1984 and 1985 when he was an All-WNY Quarterback for the Vikings.

Of the nine 1,000 yard passers for Maple Grove, three includes the Secky brothers: Randall (3), Tom (2) and Chris (2).

Sean Brady, Canisius former QB completed the least almost of passes to throw for 2,038 yard in 2008.

Travis Eman of Canisius had the highest yards per pass averaging 23.2 yards per pass when he threw for 1782 yards in 2009 when he completed 77 of 154 passes.
