John Urschel Canisius
John was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and attended Canisius High School. While at Canisius, he played football and was All-WNY and All-State first team offensive lineman and was selected recipient of the Trench Trophy which each year is presented to the top lineman in WNY. He was also recipient of the Jim Dombrowski Award because of his size, 6'3" 275 lbs.
Urschel was not recruited by many colleges but did receive scholarship offers from Penn State and Boston College. He accepted the offer from Penn State and in his four years he has become an icon and is the face of Nittany Lion Football where he has earned All-Big Ten First Team Honors and received several All-Academic Team Honors.
Urschel earned his undergraduate degree in mathematics in three years, a masters in math in his fourth year, and will earn a second masters in math education all while carrying a 4.0 gpa. During the spring semester he taught a course on trigonometry and analytic geometry.
Urschel has a desire to pursue a career playing football in the NFL before he embarks on the next state in his life journey which will include mathematics.
