2013 Summary: WNY High School Football News & Notes

In the past 6 years, there have been 30 state football championship games: Section VI (WNY) with 11 titles and Section V (Rochester) with 7 titles have won 18 of the titles (with Section VI winning the most championships) during these six years. Section V (23) and Section VI (19) have won a total of 42 during the 96 state titles (or 46% of the championships). This is a tremendous achievement for WNY high school football players and the success can be attributed to outstanding coaches and players.

The Randolph State Title was the 19th overall for Section VI, which now ranks third in State Championships behind Sections 1 & 5. Southern Tier teams have won 11 of 19 titles.

Congratulations to Brent Brown and the Randolph Cardinals for winning the Class D State Title for the 4th time! (2005, 2009, 2012, & 2013)

Section VI has a 19-9 record in State Championship games.

Members of the Buffalo News All-WNY First Team who were also named to the WNY All-Academic Football Team included Jacob Sisson (Jamestown), Chris Doubek (Randolph), Dawson Hillis (Orchard Park), Austin Lauricella (Akron), Brian Stoldt (Alden) and Phil Zobrest (Alden).

Most Yards Rushing: 2,536 yards - Chris Doubek, Randolph

Alden and Depew had the most members on the All-WNY Academic Football team with three each.

Teams of the Year: Randolph and Williamsville North for their resilience, perseverance and success.

Congratulations to Rich Robbins and the Canisius Crusaders for winning the Msgr. Martin Association Championship for the 2nd consecutive year.

Best Drives: Jamestown's win over Orchard Park, Williamsville North's win over Eastridge.

Dynamic Duo: Jake and Nick Ames, Williamsville North

Damon Janes, Brocton/Westfield lost and his life due to an injury in a football game. Our prayers and thoughts continue to go out to the family, friends, teammates and community.

Randolph won the Class D State Title for the second consecutive year and 4th overall. Just how good was Randolph? The Cardinals defeated Tioga 35-6 in a Class D Semi-final matchup. Tioga gave Class C State Champion Chenango Forks its only loss 7-0.

Williamsville North, a 7th seed in the Class A Section Playoffs won Sectional, Farwest and Western Titles before being defeated the championship game by Queensbury at the Carrier Dome. An amazing journey for the Spartans.

Canisius won the Msgr. Martin Championship for the second consecutive year and its third title in 5 years.

Jamestown, Williamsville North, Depew, Cleveland Hill, Randolph and Frewsburg won Sectional Championships.

Jake Sisson, Jamestown's Sr. QB, passed for a WNY record with 3,184 yards in a season and 33 TDs, while rushing for 781 yards and 24 TDs in leading the Red Raiders to averaging 52 points and a Sectional Title.  Jake also broke the single game passing record with 508 yards against Kenmore West.

Chris Doubek, Randolph Sr. RB, set a WNY single season rushing record with 2,536 yards and scored 36 touchdowns in leading the Cardinals to a State Championship.

Alden has improved its record for the past 4 years to 40 wins & 4 losses, which included 3 Sectional and 1 Farwest Title.

Sweet Home made it to the Class A Sectional title game for the 7th consecutive year. The Panthers had won the last 6 championships and over the past 7 years recorded a mark of 77 wins and only 5 losses. An amazing accomplishment.
