NORFOLK, V.A. (From Bisons.com)- Trayvon Robinson gave the Tides a walk-off win against the Bisons on Saturday night in a game that still wasn't without positives for the Herd.
Norfolk's left fielder took a 2-1 offering from Buffalo reliever Chad Beck into the bleachers in right field to lift his club to the 6-5 victory over Buffalo. The defeat drops the Herd to just 1-5 on its current eight-game road swing.
Robinson's home run was the game-winner, but for Bisons fans, there were plenty of other story lines to take away from Saturday's defeat.
First was the best outing from starter Ricky Romero in a Buffalo uniform. The final line will read five runs on eight hits, but that is extremely misleading. The southpaw retired nine of his final 10 batters and went a season-best six innings. Romero struck out three batters and walked none, throwing 53 of his 83 pitches for strikes.
Norfolk built a 4-0 lead early, but it came at the expense of some tough luck for Romero. Russ Canzler's two-run home run in the first inning came after a bloop single off the bat of former Bison, Jason Pridie.
The Tides scored two more in the second inning, but both runs came with two outs and after centerfield Mike McCoy misjudged a line drive off the bat Xavier Avery. McCoy initially broke in and couldn't recover in time as the ball flew over his head for an RBI-triple. Avery would later score on a wild pitch.
Also encouraging for the Bisons was a solid comeback that evened the score. Trailing by four, Mauro Gomez hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Four batters later, Ryan Goins grounded a two-run single through the right side to even the score. When the Herd fell down again in the bottom of the fourth, Luis Jimenez wasted little time to knot things up again with an opposite field home run in the fifth.
The bullpens took over from there, until Robinson's home run in the ninth inning made a winner of Norfolk's Jairo Ascencio.
