Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Yadier Molina's RBI single in the sixth
inning was the difference maker as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the
Washington Nationals, 3-2, on Monday in the first of a three-game set.
Allen Craig had a two-run double for the Cardinals, who saw starter Shelby
Miller (3-1) have a solid performance, fanning eight and allowing two runs on
four hits and two walks over 6 2/3 innings. Edward Mujica pitched a perfect
ninth and picked up his second save of the season.
Ian Desmond and Anthony Rendon drove in a run apiece for the Nationals, who
were shut out by the Mets, 2-0, on Sunday. Starter Dan Haren (1-3), who came
into the game with a 8.10 ERA, gave up three runs on six hits and three walks
in five-plus innings.
