Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - The Florida Panthers acquired center Jerred Smithson from the Nashville Predators Friday in exchange for a 2012 sixth- round draft pick.

The 33-year-old Smithson has registered one goal and five points in 53 games this season.

"Jerred is a hard working, responsible, veteran player who plays well at both ends of the ice," said Panthers general manager Dale Tallon. "He is a very good penalty killer, who has consistently ranked among his team's leaders in face-off win percentage."

Smithson boasts a win percentage greater than 55 percent on draws for his career.

The British Columbia native has totaled 36 goals and 53 assists in 527 NHL games with Los Angeles and Nashville.
