BUFFALO, N.Y. -He isn't ready to resume behind the bench, but Lindy Ruff is trying to maintain his normal routine, despite his three broken ribs.

The Sabres coach was injured Monday when defenseman Jordan Leopold slipped during a drill and took Lindy's legs out. Last night, for the first time in his 15 years as Sabres Head Coach, he watched from the press box.

He said the main thing he noticed was how well you can watch the execution of plays from up top. You can see who's open and where and why plays develop the way they do.

He also said he had no problem adjusting to being a scratch. "It was easy, you know, you get up by a few and pucks are going in the net which was nice to see. I had to keep my finger off the button because you want to evaluate every play."

Assistant Coach James Patrick confirmed that Ruff laid out his game plan before the action began and he didn't hear from him until after it was over.

Both agree though, that's easy when it's a 6-0 win.

Lindy says it will still be a while before he can resume his full duties, he says right now he can't even shout.
