TORONTO - Buffalo Sabres play-by-play man Rick Jeanneret received the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for outstanding contributions as a hockey broadcaster on Monday afternoon.

The award was presented to Jeanneret at a luncheon as part of the festivities surrounding the induction of the latest Hockey Hall of Fame class.

"It's the honor of a lifetime," the voice of the Sabres told reporters.

Jeanneret has called Sabres games since 1971 and may best be known for his "may day" call in 1993, when former Sabres forward Brad May scored an overtime goal to eliminate the Boston Bruins in the first round of the playoffs.

Two On Your Side's Adam Benigni was at the award presentation and will have reports on wgrz.com as well as Channel 2 News at 5:30 p.m. and Channel Two News Tonight at 11.
