BUFFALO, NY- He served as interim head coach of the Buffalo Sabres since February, and this morning, the team made it official. Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier named Rolston as head coach of the team.

Regier and Rolston sat down and spoke to media Tuesday morning about the team moving forward.

Regier says Rolston's contract was extended for multi-years, but would not give a specific number of years. Regier said the initial plan in February was to interview other coaching candidates, but was impressed with Rolston's coaching.

Rolston says it is exciting and humbling to be named the head coach of the Sabres.   He plans to make decisions soon on his coaching staff.   As for player personnel, he would like to see Miller and Vanek in the line-up to start the season.

Rolston led the Sabres to a 15-11-5 record in the 31 games he served as interim head coach during the 2012-13 season. He took over the team after Lindy Ruff was fired. Rolston now becomes the 16th head coach in franchise history.

Before coming to Buffalo, Rolston was the head coach of the Rochester Americans. In his two seasons (2011-12, 2012-13), as coach of the Americans, Rolston compiled a 63-44-17 regular-season record.
