ORCHARD PARK, NY - The Buffalo Bills confirmed Thursday that Dave Wannstedt visited One Bills Drive and met with Chan Gailey and the defensive coaches about the possibility of joining the staff.
Wannstedt resigned as head coach at the University of Pittsburgh after this season, and is considering a return to the NFL. He's a former head coach of the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins. Gailey worked under Wannstedt as offensive coordinator in Miami and the two have a strong relationship.
Gailey told buffalobills.com that he would welcome the addition of Wannstedt.
"He's extremely knowledgeable... He's a great human being... A great team guy and he would bring some intensity to our team because I know what burns inside of him."
The Bills have an opening after the release of inside linebackers coach Demontie Cross last week, but the assumption is Wannstedt would take on a much larger role if he joined the organization.
